Message from Rev. Dr. Tony Sundermeier

Thank you for visiting our On the Way Capital Project website!

Following two years (2018–2020) of strategic planning and upon the recommendation of our Campus Master Planning Team, the Session of FPC Atlanta approved a comprehensive plan that prepares us for our third century of ministry.

The plan was structured in two phases. Phase One officially launched on August 29, 2022, following a successful capital campaign. This phase included a complete renovation of The Smith Building to increase our capacity to serve our vulnerable neighbors. The first and second floors are now dedicated to meeting the needs of the 1,500 clients we serve each month. The third floor has been transformed to better support our ministry partners: Samaritan Counseling Center of Atlanta, World Pediatrics, and Johnson C. Smith Seminary. The fourth floor now features a reimagined Women’s Transformation Center, replacing dorm-style accommodations with nine micro-apartments that provide rent-free housing for women in transition for up to twelve months. Phase One officially opened in September 2024, marking a significant milestone in our journey of faith and service.

Phase Two is now under construction and making strong progress, as you may have seen from the exciting energy around campus.  On Easter Sunday, we were pleased to welcome families back to our beloved Peachtree Street Plaza, complete with a glorious cross of flowers from our dedicated and talented Flower Guild. This next chapter continues to build upon our vision and commitments, with the goal of welcoming our congregation and community into the new space in time for the coming Advent and Epiphany season. This phase will introduce a new centralized gathering space—the Commons—with direct, hospitable access from Peachtree and 16th Streets.

Renovation and construction across both phases reflect the culmination of years of planning, prayer, discernment, patience through Covid, and extraordinary generosity—paving the way for deeper faithfulness from the corner of 16th and Peachtree, reaching into Atlanta and throughout the communities we serve.
